Amy Adams Joins David O. Russell’s The Fighter

Amy AdamsAmy Adams is in final negotiations to star opposite Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg in The Fighter, which David O. Russell is directing for Relativity Media and Paramount. Adams will play Charlene, a tough, gritty bartender and former college high-jumper from Massachusetts who ends up dating Mickey, the boxer played by Wahlberg. Melissa Leo has also joined. It was only confirmed just a few weeks ago that David O. Russell would be directing this instead of Darren Aronofsky. ( Russell has directed I Heart Huckabees ).

The movie, which is scheduled to start lensing this summer, tells the story of Ward’s early days on the rough streets of Lowell, Mass., and how he was helped to the world lightweight championship by his half-brother, portrayed by Bale. Melissa Leo’s also been cast.

31st Moscow Intl. Film Festival, closed Sunday

mkf_logoRussian films swept the board at the 31st Moscow Intl. Film Festival, which closed Sunday.

All four local pics in the 16-strong competition lineup came away with a prize. Only the helming kudo went abroad — to frosh director Mariana Chenillo from Mexico for “Five Days Without Nora.”

DostalThe top Gold St. George award for film went to Nikolai Dostal for “Pete on the Way to Heaven.” Alexander Proshkin took the special jury prize for “The Miracle.”

Karen Shakhnazarov’s adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s short story “Ward Number Six” captured best actor for Vladimir Ilyin. Best actress went to tyke Lena Kostyuk for Kira Muratova’s “Melody for the Barrel-Organ,” which also took the Fipresci prize.

Jury president Pavel Lungin, whose film “The Tsar” opened the festival, said from the stage that “our Russian films were just better this year.” (Yeah wright!)

The prize for the Perspectives sidebar went to Georgian director Vano Burduli for his debut feature “The Conflict Zone.”

Rezo ChkheidzeThe lifetime achievement award went to Georgian director Rezo Chkheidze. In a reference to the troubled relationship between Russia and Georgia, the 82-year-old director said: “I am optimistic about the future. Politics is not the business of filmmakers — but love is.”

The other honorary award, the Konstantin Stanislavsky prize, had been presented posthumously a week earlier at the opening ceremony to Russian actor Oleg Yankovsky, whose last role was in “The Tsar.”

Closing film was the first screening outside the U.S. of Michael Mann’s “Public Enemies.”

Fest prexy Nikita Mikhalkov said that this showed the importance the film biz attached to the Russian market.

Mann paid tribute to the impact of Russian cinema around the world, and spoke of his own family roots in the country.

Main industry event at festival was the debut edition of the fest’s co-production market.

Second Trailer  for “Carriers” starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Chris Pine, Piper Perabo and Emily Van Camp.

lex Pastor and David Pastor direct the film from a screenplay they wrote. The horror/thriller is produced by Ray Angelic and Anthony Bregman.The writing and directing duo make their feature-length debut on the project which is being sent out by Paramount Vantage on September 4th.

The story focuses on four friends who are on the run from a viral pandemic and soon discover that they are more dangerous than any virus could be.

‘Transformers’ on top with $387.3 mil

Aside from its whopping five-day domestic tally — the second highest of all time — Paramount’s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” broke records in several countries overseas, leading to a massive $387.3 million worldwide through Sunday, one of the best global launches ever.

The five-day opening gross of $201.2 million from 4,234 theaters domestically easily eclipsed the $152.4 million earned by “Spider-Man 2,” which previously held the five-day record for a Wednesday launch. And “Transformers 2″ nearly matched the best five-day gross of all time: $203.8 million for WB’s “The Dark Knight.”

The pretty actress insists there were no body doubles used or tan body stockings in place on the set of I Love You, Beth Cooper – that’s all her on the big screen. The 18 year old tells Eonline.com, “I was really naked. I had these little sticky petals on my boobs, but that was about it.” And the sexy star insists her parents will have no trouble with her naked scenes in the coming-of-age movie, which opens in the U.S. on 10 July (09): “My dad calls me such an exhibitionist. He always says, ‘God, even when you were little, you were such an exhibitionist!’” But Panettiere won’t be showing off absolutely everything just yet. She adds, “I’m cool with my body, and I’m cool running around undressed and all that stuff, but there are just certain things that not everyone needs to know, that you need to keep somehow private and personal to you. “But you never know… I could be 30 years old and just be like, ‘Screw it, I want to take it all off. I better take a picture of this baby before it all goes.’”

Ryan Reynolds to star in ‘Buried’
