Amy Adams Joins David O. Russell’s The Fighter
Amy Adams is in final negotiations to star opposite Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg in The Fighter, which David O. Russell is directing for Relativity Media and Paramount. Adams will play Charlene, a tough, gritty bartender and former college high-jumper from Massachusetts who ends up dating Mickey, the boxer played by Wahlberg. Melissa Leo has also joined. It was only confirmed just a few weeks ago that David O. Russell would be directing this instead of Darren Aronofsky. ( Russell has directed I Heart Huckabees ).
The movie, which is scheduled to start lensing this summer, tells the story of Ward’s early days on the rough streets of Lowell, Mass., and how he was helped to the world lightweight championship by his half-brother, portrayed by Bale. Melissa Leo’s also been cast.
